West Coast Bruckner Marathon announced (August 31st in San Diego)
Join us on Saturday, August 31, 2024 for the 26th annual San Diego County Bruckner Marathon.

To celebrate Bruckner’s 200th birthday, we will play all 11 of his symphonies. As always, the setting will be informal, with plenty of food and drinks to keep us going. We’ll also have our usual CD exchange; those unwanted CDs of yours could be someone else’s treasure.

As in previous years, we offer a combination of live and studio recordings. In this year’s line-up, we celebrate the lives of conductor Seiji Ozawa (1935-2024) and musicologist, physicist, and friend William Carragan (1937-2024). We also recognize the final release of the ultra-complete Bruckner cycle conducted by Markus Poschner as well as the 97th birthday of Herbert Blomstedt. Finally, we dedicate this marathon to our dear friends and former Brucknerthon attendees Chris TeWinkel and Jim Rosenfield, who passed away earlier this year.

Here are the selected recordings in the order in which they'll be played:
- Symphony in F-minor: Poschner/Bruckner Orchestra Linz (Capriccio CD, 2022)
- Symphony No. 1 (1877): Young/Hamburg Philharmonic Orchestra (Oehms SACD, 2010)
- Symphony in D-minor: Nelsons/Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra (DG CD, 2020)
- Symphony No. 2 (1872): Eichhorn/Bruckner Orchestra Linz (Camerata CD, 1991)
- Symphony No. 3 (1877): Kubelik/Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra (Audite CD, 1970)
- Symphony No. 4 (1881): Blomstedt/Staatskapelle Dresden (Denon CD, 1981)
- Symphony No. 5: Jochum/Concertgebouw Orchestra (RCO Live CD, 1986)
- Symphony No. 6: Leitner/SWF Symphony Orchestra (Hänssler Classic CD, 1982)
- Symphony No. 7: Ozawa/Saito Kinen Orchestra (Decca CD, 2003)
