The 1937 "Bruckner Fanfare" (and a possible ringtone for you smart phone!)In 1937, as part of the planned activities around the National Socialist's "Day of German Art," The Reich Radio commissioned from Eugene List a "Bruckner Fanfare" to be used as a musical "stinger" before a new radio report was aired. The opening motto from Bruckner's Third Symphony was used for this particular fanfare. Several versions of the same fanfare were recorded by Polydor and a copy of that disc resides at the Deutsche Rundfunkarchiv in Frankfurt. Other "fanfares" incorporating Bruckner's music were produced. One employing music from Bruckner's Fifth Symphony is known to have been used, but no copy of it has surfaced to date.
As more and more people get their personal cell phone, I want to remind you that there is now a way to get your own Brucknerian ringtone of the above-mentioned "Bruckner Fanfare." The download is of a small 11 second .mp3 file which (by following your manufacturer's instructions) can be transferred to your cell phone as a ringtone. Click here.
