Bruckner, the conqueror!A "flea-market" type purchase has raised an interesting point regarding the reception of Bruckner's music by the public. I recently acquired a CD of orchestral music that was produced as part of a sound library collection. These sound libraries are usually purchased by producers to provide background music for their productions. The music is usually catagorized by mood and tempo. This particular CD has a 3'10" excerpt of Bruckner's Symphony No. 9. The selection is the opening of the Scherzo (Matacic / Czech Philharmonic recording). The tempo is catagorized as Medium and the mood as "conquering." One must admit that it is Bruckner at his most belligerent.
