Bruckner's Kronstorf Violin is restored

Bruckner's Kronstorf Violin is restored
For anyone who went on one of the Bruckner Tours of Austria - or anyone who has ventured into the small Austrian Town of Kronstorf, one of the highlights of the visit is to see Anton Bruckner's violin. Bruckner went to Kronstorf as a school teacher. In addition to his teaching duties, he was asked to play the violin at local festivities. When Bruckner left Kronstorf, he gave his violin in exchange for outstanding room rent.

Up until 2023, the violin was on display in the Kronstorf Bruckner Museum in the exact room that he rented. It was displayed in a small case just opposite his small desk.

In celebration of Bruckner's 200th birthday, the violin was restored by master violin maker, Alexander Schütz.

A reproduction of the violin can now be seen at the museum. The original violin is stored off site in a facility with more controlled temperature and humidity.

There is a short video on YouTube (in German) which feature the restoration of the violin.
