A turtle named Bruckner???
My wife was the founding president and remained in office until retirement ten years later at the National Marine Life Center in Buzzards Bay, MA. More marine life, seals, dolphins, turtles, even small whales, strand on Cape Cod than anywhere else in the Americas. The Center takes in as many stranders as it can, rehabilitates them, then sets them free. At first they would only give numbers to animals so the staff wouldn't become too attached to them. But now as part of a fund-raising effort they allow donors, such as we have been, to name animals. Thus Kemp's Ridley turtle No. 77 now has the name Bruckner. The last we heard, Bruckner has recovered and was sent to Pittsburgh where he was introduced to some fellow turtles who then traveled to Florida and were set free. Good luck, Bruckner! |
