An Ebay oddity shows an interesting coincidenceDuring a routine Bruckner search on Ebay, the item shown on the right popped up. It is a statement of money owned and was addressed to the Menger Hotel in San Antonio, Texas by the firm "Bruckner & Mahler" in St. Louis, Missouri. The statement is dated January 19, 1874. Clearly the item has nothing to do with the composers Bruckner and Mahler but the coincidence is striking.
The Menger Hotel still exists. It has been beautifully preserved and stands right next door to the historic Alamo. It turns out that the company of Bruckner & Mahler was a distributor of liquors and wine - both "imported and native" so the invoice is for liquor sold to the hotel.
