Wilson, Colin: The Philosopher's Stone
This book was written by Colin Wilson partly in response to a challenge from August Derleth, the literary executive of H.P. Lovecraft, to write something in the Lovecraftian style, after Wilson had in fact ridiculed Lovecraft. In the novel, the hero has a mind expanding experience listening to 78 rpm records of Furtwaengler conducting the 7th and 8th symphonies. My thanks to Benjamin Korstvedt and David Nield for this referral. |
