Berky, John: Bruckner Recordings Buried in Orchestra Boxed Sets
The China Philharmonic Live 100 CD Set
Over the years, many orchestras have produced boxed sets of recordings that feature various aspects of their ensemble’s performance history. Often, it is a series of recordings made over the years featuring various music directors and/or guest conductors. Some have focused on a given conductor.

Some sets (especially the later example) have been produced by commercial recording companies and others have been assembled using commercial recordings. This listing, however, will focus on the sets sponsored by the orchestras themselves and produced as a source of income for the orchestra. Given that fact, many of these sets were quite elaborate productions and very expensive. Many are no longer available.

Given the way these set were produced and marketed, the performances themselves were never listed in recording catalogs.

It should be noted that there is another whole series of recordings where orchestras have released single CDs featuring Bruckner symphonies. That is an extensive list and is not covered here.

The listing below shows sets offered by the orchestra where the Bruckner symphonies contained within were not openly listed on the cover of the set.
