Biancolli, Louis: The Concert Companion - Bruckner pagesIn 1947, Louis Biancolli and Robert Bagar published The Concert Companion, a comprehensive guide to symphonic music. The book, in its first edition is rare, but the the Book-of-the Month Club soon offered a book club edition as a special promotion - a free copy to anyone who had recently, "purchased two Book-of-the-Month-Club selections." As a result thousands of copies were received, saved as a valuable reference guide and summarily ignored for years. As a result, the used book market is flooded with copies to the point that some booksellers offer the book for one cent and make their profit on the postage.
Nevertheless, the book was a remarkable edition and a very well-written guide to symphonic music.
