Moissl, Franz: Felix M. Gatz as Bruckner- Conductor, 1934 | | | Felix M. Gatz | Franz Moissl was an early proponent of Anton Bruckner's music. He conducted performances of Bruckner's symphonies in the 1920s and was a recipient of the Honorary Medal of the Bruckner Society of America. He was Chief Editor of the "Bruckner Monthly" in Vienna and a professor at Vienna's State Academy of Music. In 1934, Moissl published this tribute to Felix Maria Gatz just after Gatz had left for the United States. The essay is filled more with praise than being filled with facts, but it does provide some context about Gatz's life in Europe before emigrating to the United States and a teaching position at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh.
