November, 2009 - The "early" Rozhdestvensky Bruckner 9thIn the 1980s, Gennadi Rozhdestvensky released a very complete cycle of Bruckner symphonies for Melodiya Records with the USSR Ministry of Culture Orchestra. That set has been issued a few times on CD. However, Rozhdesdvensky also recorded some Bruckner symphonies with the Moscow Radio Symphony Orchestra. Some of these were issued as LPs and some later came out on Russian Revelation and Yedang CDs. However, the Symphony No. 9 (recorded in May of 1970) has never been issued since its release on some European LP labels and the US Westminster Gold budget LP label. While the Westminster LP had the most interesting cover art, the transfer here comes from a better European pressing.
