January, 2018: Symphony No. 7 / Raoul Grueneis / Akademisches Orchestra Freiburg

This is the third in a series of recordings made by the Academic Orchestra of Freiburg, Germany. The conductor for this recording is Raoul Grueneis. The concert was recorded on May 26, 1994 in Florence, Italy. Raoul Grüneis was born in Würzburg and studied at the Berlin University of Fine Arts. At the university, his participation in lied interpretation courses by Aribert Reimann and Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau provided him great contribution. After completing his higher education, Raoul Grüneis started to work as an academician in the department of lied repertoire at the institute. Furthermore, composition lessons given by Witold Szalonek, a student of Nadia Boulanger contributed significantly in his understanding of structural links. Also, his participation to courses given by Sergiu Celibidache contributed his progress in art. Therefore, the French Modern Era has a very significant place in Raoul Grüneis’s repertoire. Another significant point in his repertoire is Richard Wagner’s works. Raoul Grüneis became proficient at specific stylistic requirements of Richard Wagner operas especially at courses given by Waltraut Meier, Anna Reynolds, and Jean Cox in Bayreuth. During the Bayreuth Festival, he assisted Donald Runnicles and Giuseppe Sinopoli at the Mannheim State Theatre under Jun Märkl’s management.
